HDPE high density sheet or polyethylene is thermoplastic polyethylene made from petroleum. Requires 1.75 kg of petroleum (as energy and raw material) to make 1 kg of HDPE.
HDPE has very little branching, this is due to the choice of catalyst type in its production (Ziegler-Natta catalyst) and reaction conditions. Because of the small branching, HDPE pipes have high tensile strength and intermolecular forces. HDPE is also tougher and can withstand high temperatures (80C).
HDPE Sheets are very resistant to chemicals so they can be used for a wide variety of purposes including the following, for detergent packaging, milk packaging, fuel tanks,
Plastic bags
Container for transporting several types of chemicals
Geothermal transfer piping system
Natural gas piping system
Water pipe
Cable wrap
